San Francisco-based startup Anthropic debuts a game-changing update for its Claude AI Chatbot: voice mode.

Published: 01 Jun 2025
The future of AI conversation is here, and it sounds a whole lot like a chatbot named Claude. The model, created by San Francisco AI startup Anthropic, now converses with users in a surprisingly human-like fashion thanks to a major update in the form of a voice mode.

As the frontier of AI conversation advances, San Francisco startup Anthropic is certainly making its mark. Its AI chatbot, Claude, has been recently given a major upgrade in the form of a voice mode. Now available on mobile apps in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Claude has leapt forward in its conversational capabilities, aiming to become more accessible and versatile. The AI Chatbot is no stranger to competition, as it goes head-to-head with rival AI company, OpenAI, interestingly enough, formed by some of Anthropic’s defectors.

While this voice conversational interface and web search functionality are accessible to users of Claude’s free tier, integration with external tools and apps are only available to paying subscribers of Claude Pro and Claude Max. For these premium users, they can select from differing voice options all entertainingly named like ‘Buttery’, ‘Airy’, ‘Mellow’, ‘Glassy’ and ‘Rounded’, each with its own distinct tones, accents and conversational quirks. To ensure the conversation is not lost, full transcripts and voice mode summaries are provided. A special feature that stands out is the ability to transform voice conversations into visual notes, preserving key insights for easy later reference.

An attractive feature to users may be the ability to switch seamlessly between text and voice interactions without losing conversation context and the accompanying rich media interaction support. These features allow for deeper engagement with content and easier access to insights. For Pro Plan users and above, voice mode also integrates personal information sources—such as emails, calendar events and documents—along with real-time web search results, creating a more comprehensive and actionable conversational experience. The cherry on top is their extended web search functionality to all users, a major step in democratising access to AI technology.

Innovation and competition certainly fuel the rapid advancements in AI technology. As Anthropic unveils these updates for the Claude AI chatbot, it further emphasizes its commitment to ensure technology is increasingly accessible and versatile to its users. Its continuous drive to outdo its rivals in this fiercely competitive AI ecosystem is a testament to the exciting future that AI conversations holds.
