Epic Games Pursues Legal Action Against Apple Over Fortnite Approval Controversy

Published: 17 May 2025
Epic Games, the creator of the popular video game Fortnite, is taking legal action against tech giant, Apple.

While the lines between technology and entertainment frequently blur, few instances make this as crystal clear as Epic Games launching a lawsuit against Apple. At the core of the legal dispute is Epic’s wildly successful online game, Fortnite, which was removed from the Apple Store last year over issues pertaining to the proprietary in-app payment system Apple runs.

Epic Games, unflinching in its stance against what it perceives as anti-competitive behaviour, has now sought a legal route to force Apple into considering Fortnite anew for listing. Their challenge is deeply rooted in a broader antitrust argument in the tech sector. It represents a power-mismatch scenario, where platforms like the Apple Store maintain a high level of control over smaller apps, an issue that raises genuine concern over competition and innovation in the digital space.
