Bluesky Gains Popularity Among Left-Leaning Influencers without Alienating X: Latest Pew Research Analysis

A scramble for social influence: Pew Research Center reveals left-leaning voices migrating to Bluesky, while still maintaining a presence on X.

A recent analysis by Pew Research Center suggests a surge in left-leaning voices making a migration to the emergent social network, Bluesky. This analysis comes as an updated supplement to Pew’s report on news influencers previously released in November 2024. The fluctuation is becoming apparent but what’s surprising is, these influencers have not sacrificed their presence on established giant ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter.

The distilled data comprise influencers who have amassed followers exceeding 100,000 on at least one main platform, and who regularly post pertinent news events. The analyzed pool contains around 500 influential accounts. The study reveals that in February/March, nearly 43% of these influencers were found to have a presence on Bluesky. Out of these, just over half (51%) created their accounts following the 2024 presidential election.

While influencers continue to be more active on X than on Bluesky, Bluesky’s daily activities seem to be increasing. Active influencers on Bluesky, those who continually post, rose from 54% in January’s first week to 66% in March’s last week. This reveals a slow but steady shift toward the new platform, demonstrating Bluesky’s growing appeal.
